The Beautiful Skin Guide
Having bad skin can come down to a whole multitude of causes. A large amount of causes are hormonal and hereditary, which can be a bit more tricky to resolve. However the vast majority can be tweaks to diet and lifestyle, which i'm about to share with you.
There are a crazy amount of products, procedures and supplements that claim to transform your skin, however, often it is bringing it back down to basics that will benefit your skin the most.
Here are my 5 top tips to having better skin, whether your concern is spots, dry skin, oily skin, wrinkles or dullness.

5 STEPS TO BETTER YOUR SKIN
Increase your water consumption
Drinking a good amount of water every day is essential for overall good health, but it is also really important for great skin. Our skin is our biggest organ, which is of course made up of cells, which are made up of water. Without enough water, our skin, like our other organs, won't perform at it's best.
If you feel like you're constantly putting on copious amounts of moisturiser/oils and not seeing any good results, drinking more water every day could improve your skins overall condition. If your skin doesn't receive a good amount of water daily, dehydration will make your skin look more dry and wrinkled.

As for spots, i'm not saying drinking more water will get rid of any acne you may have, but it certainly will help battle it. Water will help flush out any bad toxins, meaning less bad bacteria in your body. The NHS advise you should consume about eight glasses of 200ml water each day for a woman, and 10 glasses of 200ml each for a man. This doesn't have to be pure water, fruit juices and tea can help too :)
Consume more foods rich in Beta-Carotene
Foods that contain Beta-Carotene include carrots, sweet potato, kale, spinach, apricots, peas, squash and peppers, it is basically most things dark green or vibrant orange in colour. Our bodies convert beta-carotene into vitamin A, vitamin A encourages great skin, by consuming these foods on a regular basis, your skin will naturally give off a healthy glow.
Not only is beta-carotene great for your skin, it is also great for a good immune system and great eyesight. So an all round good thing to add into your diet!

Get more SLEEP
I know, 'easier said than done' I hear you say! Whether it's your darling children or something on Netflix keeping you up, we could all do with that extra hour or two in bed.
When we're sleeping, our bodies are recovering, fighting any inflamed cells in our bodies.

More sleep can encourage the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid (this hydrates our skin), the molecules that give our skin its glow, bounce, and translucency.
Not having enough sleep is directly linked to an acceleration of the ageing process. When you're skipping on a good nights sleep, your body releases more of a hormone named Cortisol. Increased levels of cortisol can lead to the breakdown of collagen, which makes your skin more supple and bouncy.
Getting your beauty sleep isn’t an old cliché — it’s a must for having skin that glows.
Have a good skin care routine
While face wipes have revolutionised the way we remove makeup, what can seem like a mammoth task at 10pm is made quick and easy. However, are face wipes that good for our skin?!
Recent research has shown that some brands are soaking their wipes in chemicals that are also present in anti-freeze. This isn't good news for the lazy girl! In addition to that, ingredients such as parabens, which are massively linked to cancer, have been found in the chemical cocktail that is coated in some face wipes.
Plus, makeup wipes don't remove all of our makeup properly. There is an unbelievable amount of bacteria, dirt, sweat and general nastiness that builds up on your face each day, it is impossible that one wipe will remove all of this.
Have a go at the traditional cleanse, tone, moisturise (I will do another blog of my recommendations) , it may seem like a complete chore every night, but your older, wiser self will most likely thank you for it.
I can guarantee, your face will feel much fresher and more toned, therefore making your skin even more beautiful.
Treat your skin
Invest into your skin! As i've said, your skin is your BIGGEST organ, give it the care it deserves! When you think of all the money you spend on total crap each month (horrible thought, I know), you probably could spend that money on something that could potentially help your skin more than any of the above.
Being a makeup artist, it's a given that I'm a complete product junky, and i'm afraid to say most of the time, it is 'you get what you pay for' with skincare products. Next time you pick up a bargain product, take a look at the ingredients on the back, you might find yourself shocked!
So think 'YOLO' and give yourself a treat ;)
